It actually was a proposed flag which was rejected in 1912 because southern albania (predominantly orthodox) basically carried the whole independence movement.

But it was still rejected to show more presentation to the catholic and muslim communities.

Although, on the bright side, it is the official flag of the albanian orthodox church, and if you visit an orthodox church in here you'll see this symbol everywhere
