So all they did was use the simulation footage they had in droves (it's normal to train intensely and have that footage already on hand), send the guys at NASA the fake telemetry they already were expecting from previous tests, and that's it.

All you needed to fake it was a few people lying, the astronauts, some guys in charge and the president to shut the hell up and not question it.
