As a child, he was affected with a strange wasting sickness which left him bed-bound more often than not, with nothing to do but read terrible adventure fiction where the heroes swing on chandeliers, save maidens and chase glory. Largely isolated from his peers, he gradually began to believe these stories were true. His sickness was cured by a traveling druid, who accidentally overcompensated with the cure, sending the sickly teenage boy into a massive growth spurt, turning him into a muscle-bound colossus.

Now 21, our plucky hero traveled in search of adventure, settling into the town of Phlan, where he sought treasure, battled cultists, threatened hags and struck peace between lizardfolk. Until the cult of the dragon destroyed everything.

Swearing revenge for the utter destruction he has witnessed, Duke is desperately hoping to get an opportunity to slay a dragon, save a maiden and become a hero, like in his storybooks.
