As the girl departs, Clover watches her go. Then she realizes she should say something cool in response to her parting words.

“y-yea!” Clover raises her fist in the air, but the girl was long gone, and no one was around to see it. Her battery-operated tail droops to the ground. She turns back toward the station.

When things get confusing, taking a step back and refocusing sometimes makes things clearer. Lorene stops and massages her forehead. Her ears perk up as she hears the sounds of footsteps scampering closer from behind.

“h-hey!” The wolf-girl waves at Lorene as she turns to look. “G-good work! I got the info!” Lorene blinks. The wolf-girl stops, adjusting her wolf-ears to look more confident, before trying to smile coolly. “I’m Clover! You don’t have to be scared… cuz I only bite mean people! N-nice to meet you!”

The serious girl gives a brief smile. “Hey. I’m Lorene. …Sorry, I know that wasn’t a great first impression back there.”

Clover shakes her head. “N-no, that was perfect! You almost got me on that good wolf/bad wolf act too, before I realized! We got the address for the place because of it!” The wolf-girl looks down, pressing a few buttons on her belt, and her tail slowly wags behind her. She looks back up. “W-wanna go check it out? Wolves watch each other’s backs on the hunt!”

Lorene purses her lips. She’d gotten the wrong idea about her, but there was no point in correcting it. “…Why do you want to see the murder site? I know we’re magical girls, but it doesn’t really seem to involve us…”

“heh heh…” Clover gives Lorene a conspiratorial glance. The girl stares back, confused. “That’s because… I think it does involve us! Or m-me, anyway! The other day, I think they tried to get me! At the mall!” She looks around for a second, scanning quickly. Phew, no suited men in sight.

Lorene blinks. “Ah.”

“A-also…” The wolf-girl’s eyes are determined. “A wolf always has to stick up for her pack… and… even if we didn’t know her… if she was also a magical girl, then we owe it to her to stick up for her!”

Lorene remains silent. That… it was an idealistic mindset. She was a stranger. They didn’t owe her anything. That kind of thinking only led to being taken advantage of. After all, in this world, if they were the ones who’d needed help… no stranger would do anything for them. Not for free.

“A-anyway…!” The wolf-girl is stammering. “I-I think we work pretty well together! W-w-wanna join my pack?!?” She shyly hands Lorene a pair of wolf-ears. The girl stares down at them, bewildered.
