What kinda poverty are we talking? If you’re saying billionaires should donate some of their excess money to starving Africans or refugees or war, sure. I agree with that, and I think most people who aren’t emotionally retarded Patrick Bateman wannabes would think so too.
But if you’re talking about the working poor in the first world, a lot of those people are in the positions they’re in because they spend every dime they’ve got before it’s even hit their account using credit, save essentially nothing for retirement, and treat education and discipline like it’s a contagion that will ruin their way of life. Giving these people free money is like adding gasoline to a bonfire. They’re not going to use it to better their lives. Remember that stimulus checks came at a time when a lot of poorer Americans couldn’t afford basics like utilities or even food, yet the data shows these checks just led to more luxury purchases like TVs or Pokemon cards. I’ll probably never be a billionaire, but if I was, the last thing I’d think to do is put more money in the hands of people who consume as a primary means of generating dopamine.
