I went to do the harpy quest first since the rewards were lower than the "main story" one where you have to rescue some girls in seaside town so I assumed you had to do that one first and got my ass handed to me. They're fast, hit hard/poison and have range. Went east of seaside town and there's some pixies who appears in large groups, almost always act first and spam some sort of AoE light wall that also deal 30-40 damage to everyone so yeah accidentally walking into the wrong area with low hp/speed is pretty much a death sentence.
