Its entirly dependent on the purpose and what its shooting. China and Japan went for a smaller rail gun which would last longer but the trade off is well the impact size. But the ones the US tested was way too large and so it broke. Japan is going for more of a AA role. While China's was just a smaller but more reliable version of the US one.
