To them, beliefs and attitudes are just a result of the various mechanical inputs they've been exposed to, because people are just machines and therefore their behavior is deterministically controlled by physical stimuli. Thus, gathering support for your cause isn't a question of actual values or substance, but rather a question of PR campaigns and proper advertising. Is your candidate losing support? You just need to change up the buzzwords! They are literally incapable of understanding why this approach won't work because they axiomatically lack cognition of the fact that people have souls, or even real consciousness. This is also why people like Hillary think quips like "pokemon go to the polls" will be effective. It's also why they have meltdowns and tantrums when projects predicated on this belief (like her presidential campaign) don't work out. It isn't merely a campaign being refuted, but their fundamental understanding of what a person is.
