that said, i’ve often observed that for many goyim, the process of forming similarly deep and enduring friendships can be more complex. their social structures may not always emphasize communal unity to the same extent, and the fabric of their relationships may sometimes feel more dependent on external factors such as shared interests, proximity, or mutual benefit. in such cases, friendships can appear more fragile or, at times, transactional in nature, lacking the same depth or spiritual grounding that often characterizes jewish connections. of course, this is not to diminish the many beautiful and meaningful relationships that exist outside of our faith. we are taught to honor and respect every individual, and many of us maintain close, heartfelt friendships with people of all backgrounds. still, i can’t help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for the closeness that we, as jews, are privileged to experience. and while our traditions and faith may set us apart in certain ways, i sincerely hope and pray that all people (regardless of their heritage or beliefs) are ultimately able to find the companionship, community, and spiritual support that they seek in life.

as a jew and a trans person, i find myself caught in a complex web of identity and politics. i rely on hormones produced by israeli pharmaceutical companies like teva to transition, which creates a deep internal conflict. on one hand, i support the palestinian struggle for liberation and justice, recognizing the systemic oppression and violence faced by palestinians. on the other hand, my very survival and well-being are tied to a system that i fundamentally oppose. this duality is painful, as i grapple with the reality that my body's needs are intertwined with the very regime i seek to dismantle. i am part of a community that is often forced to choose between our life-affirming transitions and our commitment to palestinian liberation, a choice that feels unjust and deeply troubling.
