I know it’s originally from Castlevania but my favorite version of this boss archetype was the Faust VIII one in Shaman King for GBA. Really fun castlevania-like where you collect Spirits Pokemon style and use them to fight or solve mazes. Really, can’t recommend this one enough, it has great music too. I also remember reading in Shonen Jump that they had a contest to name the original character boss of the game. The winning name was “Mephias, Guardian of Demons" which sounds extremely fucking kino if you ask me.
