The point is, Jesus is not the starting point of christianity. The beliefs we associate with it were already cemented in Egyptian and mesopotamian mythology for hundreds if not thousands of years. Those older beliefs might be called a proto-religion in relation to modern christianity but this is an oversimplification. Those older ideas were not pagan either; the events of the levant merely reframed older myths in a new context that was packaged as abrahamic.

The focus on the levant, its races and tribes, is a backwards way of looking at the mass of mythologies and real events that have inspired countless denominations.
