As someone who used to work support for Nikon, buy a Canon and a mount adapter. Nikon has great optics, but you're fucked the moment something goes wrong with your camera.
That whole D800 fiasco with the shutter flinging oil onto the sensor was a known design flaw, and we just weren't allowed to talk about it. So many of them came in for non-warrantee repair because of it, and the only thing we'd do is clean off the sensor and ship it back. The same camera might get sent in 2 or 3 times before the owner gave up. It was such a fucking mess.
Not to mention the artificially-limited software, specifically locking out certain features for lower end cameras (they can ALL do live video over USB, you just can't use it).
Great rifle scopes and binoculars, though.
