Though I like the idea of one mystically being binded to a "Pirates Code" by calling yourself a pirate, as in your fate is sealed and if you dishonor the code you will be condemned to Davy Jones' Locker. Same thing in Elder Scrolls with the Thieves Guild being bound to the Goddess Nocturnal and her afterlife by being professional thieves.
