Because the simpler the formula the harder it is to actually make it special. Only very few isekai slop rises above the sea of trash. It's the same with this archetype. Also homobaiting them permanently to appeal to the 1% really doesn't help either. I think they're just jaded from multiple flops because male characters literally do not sell unless they put actual effort towards them unlike the usual waifu bait they throw out that can attract an audience regardless of how shit they are as a character.
