I think the problem there lied with the execution and not the character/concept itself. Really you can make any character or story work if you have the right director/writer behind it.

Yes, it does. Ultimately it’s gonna come down to how well Gunn and his crew can pull this off, but I don’t think fans of the traditional strait-laced Supergirl are invalid for in their frustrations either.
