Modern war as we know it is also heavily based on luck of the draw in terms of what's currently leap-frogging another technology. Tanks have conceptually existed for almost 500 years now and drones were mostly being underutilized despite being in a recognizable form for nearly 40 years now. The FPV drone is really a weird synthesis of the dawn of air power and the intended use of artillery. It's not highly specialized for either, but it sits in a niche that wasn't being adequately filled for some reason despite everyone knowing it existed.

As much as I know it'll be very rough for a few years and I might not see through that period, it's an inevitable event no matter what form it takes.
