To explain - I have personally seen about 60-80 instances of "anons" claiming that there is no difference between Ukraine and russia to somehow justify russias invasion previously over the past 1000+ days.
You are the first to claim as much in good faith.
If anything the people usually aren't in earshot so visual IFF is important for the ranges of 30-100m and beyond.
IFF is usually visual and not auditory and even if the languages were vastly different - as long as equipment and uniforms look similar these kinds of armbands are indispensable.
Of course there is ethnic overlap, just like between Germany and Poland. Many Ukrainians even only speak russian.
There the retardation repeats here because anyone claiming that Switzerland should be Germany because they basically both speak German we recognize as retard.
Anyone putting that dumb theory to the test will also rightfully get their legs blown off trying to cross the bridges and road there.
Ukraine has been trying to get to this point of self-determination throughout a slew of malignant subjugation attempts and imperialism from Europe in the past and primarily from Russia both then and now for about 300 years at this point.
Though of course for us the people living right now the contemporary history matters most and influences the current goings on more so than anything more than even just 30 years ago, especially when things acutely are in turmoil.
