Russia Hits Ukrainian Cities With Over 70 Drones, Causing Blackouts and Damage

Russia launched a widespread drone attack across Ukraine overnight into Wednesday, striking civilian and critical infrastructure in several regions and leaving parts of the city of Sumy without power, Ukrainian officials said.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 71 drones, including Shahed-type munitions and decoy drones, from four directions, including occupied Crimea. Air defenses and electronic warfare units neutralized 45 of the drones, but 26 drones struck targets in 14 different locations across the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions.
In the northeastern city of Sumy, strikes on civilian infrastructure caused power outages in parts of the city, forcing some hospitals to switch to generator power, said acting mayor Artem Kobzar.
In Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown in the Dnipropetrovsk region, several drone hits were recorded. The head of the city's defense council, Oleksandr Vilkul, said the attacks damaged an industrial enterprise, a church, a school, a sports complex, private homes, and apartment buildings. There were no reported casualties.
In the Kharkiv region, a Russian strike hit a market in the town of Velykyi Burluk, setting trade pavilions ablaze and damaging a post office, according to emergency services. One woman was treated for an acute stress reaction.
Ukrainian officials also reported that a civilian was wounded by a Russian drone attack in the southern city of Kherson.
