The two hour flight is mercifully uneventful and you’re soon dusting down at the ancient lakebed that you visited a month ago. You make a quick note that the lakebed has the space to hold hundreds of crates of weapons, ammo and armor if necessary.

Filing that away, you haul the Presidential Override machine out of the Vertibird and quickly jog over to the congregating Legion raiders. You feel the weight of your gear and the code machine pulling you into the sand.

Along with the 60-ish Legion soldiers, Moreno lumbers over with his Gatling laser hooked on the back of the power armor. Interestingly, there are two Brotherhood soldiers in their recon armor standing away from the group.

You change direction and jog over to the pair.

[Hey fellas, you get lost?]

The pair turns to you with looks of annoyance on their faces. The Brotherhood never fails to surprise you. They both look down at the large box you carry, very interested. The taller of the two speaks.

Hunder: I’m Knight Hunder and this is Knight Smith. We’ve been ordered by Star Paladin Vance to oversee the use of the Vertibirds and to accompany you to Hawthorne. He’s just looking after potential fallout from this operation. Surely there won’t be an issue, right?

You feel a not-so-subtle threat of revoking your ride home if you throw a fit about this. There’s no way in hell they came all the way out here to mess the operation up. If you had to guess, they’ve been sent to look for technology, or at least see what NCR infantry look like out here

Instead, you decide to just keep an eye on them.

[Suit yourself. Don’t get in my way and there won’t be an issue.]

You don’t bother waiting around for a snide response and head over to Marius as he’s organizing his teams.

Marius: Okay, Courier. You know this land well-enough so lead us in. When we’re just outside the Depot, my team will split in two.

Quick and to the point. You give him a nod and start clambering up the side of the dried lakebed.

The hour march is as uneventful as the fly-in, with a clear night illuminating the desert. It’ll make it more difficult to approach the base, but it may be worth it to not have had any ankles sprained during the hike.
