I bought a set of solid silver kids cutlery a couple of years ago when my niece was born. I wanted to start a sort of family heirloom expectation because me and my sister got split up in the 1980s until the 2000s because of an abusive family, kids homes, fostering etc.
I want our kids to have a family item they can raise money with should they ever be in crisis. Something neither of us had.
My own kids have a 4 gold sovereign set from the year of their births. (I'm holding them until they are old enough to understand their value)
She only went and got pregnant again and I'm getting a nephew in October. Had to match the set I got my niece, they cost £100 more than the last set because silver has gone up.
I want them to use them. Born with a silver spoon in your mouth isn't just about wealth.
Silver is anti bacterial, anti viral and anti fungal and is now used impregnated in trauma dressings for it's properties.
In a time when most used wooden utensils, silver offered a level of food safety not provided by wood.
My sister thinks I'm mental but she's a girl so.....
