Sophie 1, apart from the alchemy, is very basic, it's ok to start with it if you don't come in with big expectations.
The other games in its trilogy are better, I liked Firis especially.
Sophie 2 is more complete.

All these games have little to none time limits; if you want a challenge go to the older games. If you're a beginner, expect to lose.

As characters Sophie is peak, and Plachta is peaker.
