It seems like what you need to do is have 3 friends so the 4 of you together and fill key roles to get a spot (like knight, thief, time mage, geo, being stuff people generally don't want to play). If you apply as a group of 3-4 or more, they seem to take you more often.
I've thought of organizing a run because I'd rather do a group of like 32-40 since instance prog with 48 is so annoying, but it'd require people actually study the fights well enough since it is a bit harder without 48 even though it scales because you get less pure DPS roles and jobs and/oor you need people capable of solo healing and solo tanking. Idk... kinda busy enough as it is, even though I'm tired of the 48 person groups.
