They could easily spin his backstory into being a struggling street rat trying his best to provide for his sister, and then just unfortunately shoving an abnormally high aptitude for G corp's singularity which then lead to falling into the clutches of Hermann. I could see it.

On the other hand, it's a 30 something y.o man who still refers to her as mother, and that could only really happen with a biological background. Or so I think.
