Loved the animation. Loved the humor. LOVED the music score. Did not like the story and the overall narrative, or rather the lack of the latter… In the first half of the movie, the story tries to build up a narrative that maybe not all demons are evil and that they are actually being forced by the demon fire king. That having demon marks doesn’t have to define you. They try to explore this narrative and then it completely gets dropped off a cliff in the second half of the film. And then the movie ends with the takeaway being… all demons are bad and forever irredeemable except for like one person who is half demon and maybe this other demon that sacrificed himself for her after living so selfishly for so long? Like… that felt underwhelming. I felt like this would have been so much better off as a multi-season show, so that we could have explored more into the world of demons and lean way more into what the film was trying to set up in the first half but then stopped caring. I really want to like this film but the story really falls flat for me. Main villain also could have been explored some more. Was really curious about the half-demon protagonist’s parents and how they got together but that’s also of course something from the dropped narrative that also never got touched. Like even demon creatures are supposedly not that bad either and is clearly a leftover from dropped writing. Love these two in picrel
