I could believe it if his face didn't show up for a split second in the basement during Chapter 2, and if it didn't blatantly appear again when you fight the shadow mantle. He's definitely real, and probably the one controlling the shadow mantle boss fight. Toby putting him in that cutscene without him being introduced to us first was a really questionable decision. Maybe it will later be revealed to be some 4th wall break he pulled.
