they kept the red cross out long enough to have starved most of them, then said most of them had been released when red cross was allowed in. they still found appalling conditions reminiscent of the notorious union civil war pow camps where starvation and disease took a massive toll. the red cross did not examine any of the closed camps because there were supposedly no prisoners there. likely filled with fresh dug mass graves.
