Russian Official From Country That Invented 'Foreign Agent' Law Shocked To Discover West Is Using It
In a harrowing address that brought the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to a standstill Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova bravely exposed the West's cruel and unusual persecution of Russia’s state-funded media outlets.
Speaking with the pained expression of someone describing a problem she was hearing about for the very first time, Zakharova detailed a laundry list of horrors inflicted upon the beleaguered employees of RT, an outlet known for its fiercely independent questioning of Kremlin narratives.
"First, they began to quietly push them out," Zakharova explained, outlining a terrifying campaign that included revoking licenses, blocking channels, and freezing bank accounts. "Then they moved on to simply direct repressions," she added, her voice trembling with what sources confirm was definitely not irony.
The most shocking revelation, however, was the West's use of a barbaric tactic known as "equating journalists with foreign agents." This practice, which has led to criminal prosecution, is a concept so alien to the Russian government that it has only been enshrined in Russian law since 2012, expanded multiple times, and used to label hundreds of journalists, activists, and news outlets whose work is now effectively criminalized.
"A hounding began," Zakharova lamented, decrying a hostile environment for journalists that Russia itself has worked tirelessly to perfect. "We are the voice of a free and diverse future," she added, apparently without collapsing into a singularity of pure hypocrisy. The West, clearly out of original ideas, is now being forced to copy Russia's homework on how to properly silence dissent.
