They have been importing african slaves since the 1500s, I won't deny Brazil kept the cycle going but at that point our entire economy was built around them. And the whitest elite is ironically not portuguese, due to Dom Pedro II attempt at whitening the population and giving free plots of land to Europeans, every white person here has accumulated wealth given to them, as long as their ancestor wasn't dumb, but the portuguese are not guaranteed so if they weren't immigrants, aka the descendants of the ones who declared indepedence. The inequality in Brazil is almost artificial, as white people were invited in with open arms and african slaves tossed to the roadside. Portugal becoming irrelevant doesn't make me happy either, the only thing I feel about it is melancholy.
