The stock of men in the US is just really piss poor. What you saw was just a cross section of that age demographic. The average man is seriously flawed in some way.
Unfortunately there are so many of these subpar “men” that normal men are automatically assumed to be average. Being normal right now necessarily means you’re better than average, as the average man is abnormal. If you look normal, dress normal, and act normal, the assumption will be that you must have some other serious, hidden flaw (such as mental illness or sexual deviancy).
This cuts both way, as the same applies to women. The average woman is fat, mental health issues are rampant (1 in 4 are on mental health medications), sexual promiscuity is common, and so on. If you see a normal girl, you assume she’s probably flawed.
