Modern circumcision isn't even "biblical" or "Torah" circumcision ("milah", still bad) which only cut of the very end of the foreskin. Jewish athletes wanted to participate in Greek athletic games, which were done nude, and since the Greeks (correctly) saw circumcised penises as horrible, they started clipping/stretching/restoring their owns foreskins back. Rabbis started sperging out about this and instituted "periah" which actually mandated that the foreskin be completely ripped to shreds using sharpened fingernails.
