A lot of things went wrong but you hit the nail dead on the head with the lesbians. They put so much fucking emphasis on them and their relationship drama(the fucking villain of the season is actively trying to break them up for example) and they're given so much fucking screentime that the other storylines and plot points end up rushed as fuck, not developed enough and thus when the show wants you to feel a certain way it hasn't earned it like it did in the first season. Other older characters suffer from this and newer characters also suffer from this.
