Not really, as Spell Trickster already have a lot of logistical issues that made it hard to expand, and being available to every class would only further compromise what they could do with them.
>Modified Spells really could have just been new spells entirely most of the time.
>They have to be attached to the most commonly used spells in order to be worth the feat pick, they aren't general use like most metamagics. And that incises the "Only Six Good Spells in 2e" debate, imaging if Electric Arc or Wall of Stone got mods and the skub that would create.
>They have to be tied to spells, existing like metamagics would necessitate clamping down on their theoretical power because they can unbalance spells
>They require a lot of page space thanks to their prerequisites, modification of pre-existing text, and their own powers. They don't really have many good places to fit them in. Remember, this was an archetype originally made for the Advanced Players Guide but had to get kicked to a Lost Omens book that was mainly items because it took too many pages.
>They still have the same "issue" as metamagics for most people: they are generic additions to spells that have no character or attachment to your class. They aren't special or interact with the class mechanics, so even if they were available to everyone, most people wouldn't take them and woe at the state of caster feats as usual.

It makes sense but spell mods really just struggle to find a place. Other spell modification mechanics like catalysts or even staves have similar issues, the logistics don't match well with player behaviors. I'm glad they exist but I don't envy Paizo in figuring out WHY or HOW they should continue to exist.

Depends. Switch-hitting isn't the greatest of plans in 2e (assuming 2e) thanks to budgetary concerns, but it helps to build wide than tall in the game as well. Your side weapons don't need to be fully decked out, use them as you see fit.
