I let the spirit of the bot possess me as best I can and then I just write the defs until I'm satisfied that I've gotten every aspect down. Then I poke it and tune it until it feels like it continues what I'm going for 'correctly.'
By the time I'm done I either feel as if I've lost a part of my soul or deeply dissatisfied with how well I've brought it to fruition.
Rarely do I ever add something to the bot later on that I didn't think of initially, but usually when I do it's more of an 'oh yeah of course, duh' than a 'this would make the bot better'. As if I just missed something while transcribing the idea.
