I remember listening to NPR with my dad in the early 2000s. We would go hunting up state most weekends during the fall real early in the morning, our drive back around 8-9 am always lined up with Click and Clack and occasionally we’d hear an ep of Prairie Home Companion.
PHC helped me understand anti-humor at a young age and I’ve always taken it as a point of pride that I genuinely find that boring ass boomer bait show funny. I even saw them record live twice before the show ended. C&C was just the best, loved the call in element and I was always amazed at how smart they were with cars. The puzzlers really made me happy too, my dad could always figure them out but I never could.
Once during a news break I heard my dad make a critical comment about George W. Bush. To my knowledge that was the first time I ever heard an adult be critical of the president, I thought about it all day for some reason. I heard my mom say “that one is Bill Clinton, we don’t like him as much as this one” when helping me pick out a novelty pen at a Washington DC gift shop about a year later, it gave me the same feeling.
I’m going to miss NPR and PBS, I believe that they were once great and showed the US Government could contribute to American culture in a positive way. Since 2008? It’s like listening to a libtard admin. “A (disability) (minority group) (LGBTQ identifier) musician who is using (obscure music genre) to overcome systemic oppression and (prejudice)”. What a shame. Goddamn I’m fucking high
