Initially, they were not designed for so many years of operation. They were built as something ascetic, structurally simple for the construction process, not too expensive, but quite tolerable for temporary housing. During the Second World War, during intense military operations, huge sections of the USSR were literally destroyed to the ground. And the most ordinary people just needed somewhere to live. There was absolutely no housing. There was also nowhere to quickly get expensive building materials in huge quantities. When it finally became clear to the remnants of the army of the united Europe that the Red Army had launched a counteroffensive, when retreating, they implemented the tactic of leaving nothing alive behind. In other words, they simply burned everything behind them.

Before the advent of the era of capitalism, when they were new and when these buildings were constantly properly maintained, they looked pretty good. Everything looked harmonious: with playgrounds between the buildings and in a complex with trees and flower beds everywhere.
