Five Ukrainian nationals, including three children, killed in Iranian strike on Israel
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Sunday that five Ukrainian citizens, three of them children, were killed when an Iranian missile struck a residential building in the Israeli city of Bat Yam on Friday.
In a statement, the ministry said that according to preliminary data from its embassy, the five were killed in the June 14 attack. "Ukrainian diplomats are working with Israeli police and other services for identification and to organize the repatriation of the bodies," the statement added.
The announcement underscores the international civilian toll of the direct conflict between Iran and Israel.
The building in Bat Yam, a suburb of Tel Aviv, was the site of intensive search and rescue operations over the weekend. Israeli officials reported that the total number of fatalities from the strike has now reached seven, as rescue teams continue to work through the rubble.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the site to survey the damage and meet with emergency responders.
