This has become such a real reality to me. I used to read a bunch of sonadow fanfics back in the 2000s to early 2010s. They were degenerate, but they still kept the spirit of the games and new how to still have sonic and shadow go on some cool adventure even if they fuck each other every 10 chapters or so. I try reading modern fanfiction and it just doesn't hit the same.
You can tell that pretty much all of them are made to satisfy the urges of pooner who want to self insert into Sonic while simueltaneously making Sonic more like them with anxiety, depression, dysphoria, the whole nine yards and nothing remotely recognizably Sonic. It's so tiring, all of them are written like shit too. The younger kids can't write in third or first person properly to save their lives, everything is so hastily written and the formatting hurts my eyes. Modern day sonadow sucks so bad.
I miss the longform 200k+ words fanfics I used to read back then, some with even longer sequels but a lot of them got deleted over the years. I miss FF.net, I hate Ao3
