I fail to see the problem here. The US can crank up tariffs but those costs are still going to get passed onto the consumer because realistically, the US doesn't have the production to meet demand in their own country and to meet that demand would take longer than Trump's term. Add that with the broad, sweeping nature of the tariffs affecting so many different industries it's just simply easier to wait things out for the next couple of years because policy WILL change to reduce them once Trump is out. There's so much talk about the tariffs themselves that I doubt there's even a proper plan to bring manufacturing back to the US at this point, it's a safe bet to let it blow over.
