The Cousland origin starts with you training with your father, and Howe comes to visit. If you're a male, he doesn't say anything, but if you're a female, he comments on how strange it is that your father is teaching "a woman" how to fight. Which makes sense in the setting: you're a noblewoman, why should you know how to use a sword and shield? Even your mother says something about marrying a good lad and settling down, which, again, is 100% sensible. Imagine the shitstorm if a scene like that was made today.
