Both battle attire and casual/trendy look are fine. Tekken in the retro era had both for every character - player 1 costume was a traditional/battle/pro look and player 2 was a casual look.
Kyo was supposed to have some kind of karate gi in early designs but modified school uniform is just much better for him.
Terry problem is how out of place he looks. His fashion looks very outdated next to Iori or Orochi team. If we assume that he doesn't try to look fashionable but rather practical, he falls short of Ralf and Clark who wear the same jeans and sleeveless jackets in early KoF but manage to look like professionals.
