It's crap.
I really thought that with Miyamoto involved, it was going to be a Japanese-style Mario story, a simple story without the nonsense found in current American and European cinema.
Also, Illumination's designs are awful, in the most Grub Hub-esque way. They definitely should have continued with the Wii U-era renders. It's depressing that we live in this timeline.
