Not even the mighty Courier can avoid a hangover and you find yourself chugging water from your Vault 13 canteen and wash it down with ground up willow bark. You’re not sure where the two girls you picked up last night are, though you suspect Jane has escorted them out of the Lucky 38. Shame, you don’t even know if you got their names. Their hair color being the only thing you remember much of.
You don’t get to wallow in your previous night’s mistakes however, as Boone is outside of your office. Well Courier, time to man up and see what other disappointments are waiting for you.
[Alright Boone, come on in.]
Craig walks in in his usual fatigues, snapping a crisp salute and standing at attention.
You pick up on his body language immediately. It seems you’re proven right, more disappointment.
[At ease, Boone. Take a seat and tell me how much our actions against the Salvatores went.]
Sitting down but not exactly “at ease”, he begins.
“Operation King’s Ransom was intended for my team to hit a safe house hard, capture a few HVTs and interrogate to find other houses, lieutenants and maybe gleam some information on this new gang in outer Freeside.”
You perk your eyebrows up at Boone’s use of the term “interrogation” if his previous pow-wow with Headache is any indication. He seems to get what you’re trying to convey.
“Before you ask, we didn’t even get the chance to launch the raid. The Salvatores have created an impressive system of informants and lookouts throughout the city. The minute we walked into Freeside, we were being shadowed by unarmed combatants. I know you don’t have a ROE but we still try not to kill in this case. We had found a safe house to hit, having monitored it for nearly two weeks from our post. It seems these Salvatores knew and were ready for us. Instead of a standard ambush, they rigged the building to blow. If the heavies hadn’t gone in first…I may not be here telling you this.”
