the colors blue and white represent the comfort of being stuck on this earth. it’s all you’ve ever known, and besides, ascension is too scary of a prospect anyway. who wants to get crucified? who really wants to leave behind the dirt and the piss and the warm hum of streetlights flickering at 3am while you stare at your own reflection in the bus stop glass? heaven sounds sterile. too clean. too far removed from the broken sidewalks and nicotine-stained fingers that make up your whole identity. blue is the sky you’re not quite ready to disappear into, and white is the hospital sheet or fast-food napkin that catches your tears and spit and everything else that makes you real. staying here means suffering, yeah, but it also means familiarity. it means you get to feel your body ache, eat gas station snacks, piss your pants in a dream, and wake up laughing. ascension can wait. you’re still finding god in cigarette burns and the hum of fluorescent bulbs.
