i made a new youtube account last month. i noticed once i published a few videos, there was this "promote" button.
so i thought "well sure, why wouldn't i want to promote the videos i just made?" so i clicked it.
then after a few clicks, it asks me how much money i want to spend. the default option is $200.
I REPEAT
TWO
HUNDRED
DOLLARS
FOR
THE
PROMOTION
OF
A
SINGLE
YOUTUBE
VIDEO
they literally give you a breakdown of how many views and impressions you will get for spending that much. pic related.
what does that tell me? absolutely everyone is doing this. everyone. they KNOW "going viral" is a HUGE thing among zoomers, whereas it used to be a completely organic thing (chocolate rain, fart in the matrix, bit my finger, etc) now it's quite literally a pay for play system.
and x doesn't even BEGIN to hide this because every time you make a tweet that someone likes, twitter literally BEGS you to pay for an account and tells you how many MORE people would see your tweet if you actually paid for the blue checkmark.
it's fucking WILD that anyone believes anything is "real" online anymore. unironically 4chan is the last bastion. yes you can bot, yes you can slide, but you literally can't PAY for more people to see your post.
like i knew paying for views was a thing, but i figured that meant like you had to pay a bot army to actually give you views, i had NO IDEA youtube literally says "okay, now if you want to pay me $200, you will get 10k views."
like wtf?
