Mandela was Xhosa. Xhosas are a Bantu group with a lot of KhoiSan admixture. The KhoiSan have 'Asian-like' facial features, unlike the Bantu. Mandela also had chinky KhoiSan features. It's common among Xhosas, especially those in the more westerly parts of the Eastern Cape province.
