THIS is inaccurate, as Team Chaotix are defined by having a job that they need money for in order to pay rent. The mandate is there so that Ian Flynn or whoever else doesn't try and explain or dissect how the money in Sonic's world works. You're not supposed to think about it, at all. What kind of money they use, how the economy works, is not meant to be analyzed or explained in depth.
But the simple fact is that Team Chaotix have a job, and need money to pay rent. Sonic the Hedgehog has no need for a job or a home as "money" is no object to him. He lives freely in a way that Team Chaotix can not.
