In football, Notre Dame is the normie choice as they are the bluest of the blue bloods. Boston College is the "SOLV because they lose a lot" choice. Those are the only two Catholic universities who play football at the highest level. In the next level down, FCS, there are over a dozen.
In general, Catholic schools at this level focus more on basketball than their football teams. Gonzaga (no football but good basketball) is full of radicals that even most of their fellow Jesuits wish would calm down a bit. Georgetown has lots of basketball history but is located in the DC swamp.
For me the balanced choice is Villanova. Lots of history, a good nickname 'nova. Comfy college town close enough to a big city to be easy to get to. Augustinian rather than Jesuit.
