You feel your eyes sting a bit. Truthfully, you didn't think you were that good and you're surprised that people thought of you as some kind of master of the game. The reality was that you just did a lot of studying. After your fight with your parents you really couldn't afford to fail. At least, thats what you thought at the time. So the only way you could think of to secure your future was to put your nose to the grindstone. You would spent countless night after practice just reading class guides and forum posts or you'd be in the public arenas just spectating matches for ideas. You didn't really steal moves or techniques so much as memorized them as a potential avenue of attack. As for your class, you simply memorized what you could do and couldn't do, match ups and the like. The fact that people thought so highly of you made you feel like it was all worth it.

"Reminiscing about old times?" You hear a woman chuckle. You quickly rub your eyes and look up to see Gloria, holding out a coffee for you. She was the only person you knew that had figured out who you were before working here. It was unsurprising given how frighteningly accurate she was at reading people.

"How many people named John Doe with no job skills and plays the exact same game as the professional do you think show up asking for work a few days after the the pro retires?"

While not a testament to her powers of reading people, her pointing it out made you feel a bit silly about trying to keep it all secret. You were just glad that Roland hadn't put the pieces together. Despite the occasional teasing, she never lorded your secret over you.

"We all got things we'd rather not talk about. I just run an eatery. I'd rather my coworkers find my shop a safe space to wind down just like the rest of my customers."

You take the cup of coffee and sip it. Gloria leans on the counter and closes the laptop. "Not good to dwell on the past you know? Then again, it seems like you had some happy memories going on. Anything to do with you playing the game again?" She asks.

"I...never said I was playing..." You say lamely putting the coffee aside and trying to hide behind checking tickets. Gloria steps around the counter and sits next to you.
