Elderly Woman Killed in Russian Shelling of Ukraine's Kherson Region
An 86-year-old woman was killed and two other people were injured in the latest Russian bombardment of Ukraine's southern Kherson region, local authorities reported.
The attacks targeted communities in the Kherson and Beryslav districts. Official statements indicated that Russian forces deployed a range of weapons, including artillery, mortars, multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), and attack drones.
The Kherson region, parts of which were liberated by Ukrainian forces in late 2022, remains under constant threat of attack from Russian troops positioned on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River. Recent weeks have seen a pattern of shelling that has resulted in civilian casualties, including a strike in late June that killed three people and wounded 13. Another attack in mid-June killed two people and injured 34.
