I must say I'm somewhat similar when I go to my apartment in Spain for 6 months a year.
(I'm a full-time neet and got it from my grandparents.)
I fully expect that they can speak German or at least we can talk with hand and foot.
I can read some Spanish or rather get the meaning out of a sentence but not even close on a level to talk.
It's obviously not the right thing to do but I'm not a boomer driving prices up for locals when my neighbour pays for his shitbox 269€ a month.
Germans overall have a tendency to expect all of Europe speaking German and many indeed do especially touristy areas which makes it even worse.
I'm trying to learn Spanish but I'm not a good learner so it will take lots of time.
